According to the International Energy Agency, renewable energy capacity is expected to expand by 50% over 5 years between 2019 and 2024, and solar PV alone accounts for 60% of the projected growth.

The revolution began in 2008 when there were 6.7 GW worth new installations from 2.5 GW the year before. In 2020, there will be more than 115 GW of solar installed world over, according to the World Economic Forum.

A total of 31,696 MW of grid-connected solar power generation capacity was set up in the country till October 2019.
